Nayana Karunaratne, Founder

Beauty should bring you forward, not cover you up.

When Nayana Karunaratne founded Salon Nayana in 1980, she began with a belief in the individual. Good hair and beauty work should respect who you are, help you feel assured and be carried out with skill, warmth and restraint.

1980

Salon Nayana begins.

Nayana opened Salon Nayana and began building a name around personal attention, professional skill and the quiet confidence that comes from feeling like yourself.

1996

Elevating the profession.

Nayana founded the Sri Lanka Association of Hairdressers and Beauticians to help strengthen training, professional standards and recognition for hair and beauty practitioners in Sri Lanka.

Over the decades

Taking Sri Lankan skill further.

Through education, professional leadership and international collaboration, Nayana helped create opportunities for Sri Lankan practitioners to learn, compete and be recognised beyond the island.

Today

The story today.

Four Salon Nayana locations now serve clients across greater Colombo, while the name also continues through a dedicated presence in Bengaluru, India. A new generation of practitioners carries the work forward.

More than outward beauty

Nayana’s philosophy has always connected outward care with inner confidence. The finest salon work does not disguise a person. It brings forward their character and the way they wish to meet the world.

That belief extends beyond the person in the chair. By treating hairdressing and beauty as serious, skilled professions, her work has also helped create pathways to training, independence and pride for the people who practise the craft.

A personal welcome

A Letter from Nayana

Salon Nayana · Since 1980

My dear clients,

When I began Salon Nayana in 1980, I held a simple belief: beauty should enhance the individual, not disguise her. The finest work is considered and restrained. It respects a person’s features, character, culture and the way she wishes to meet the world.

That belief has always required more than technical skill. It asks us to listen, to give honest guidance and to care for each person from the first conversation to the final detail. Trends will change, but personal attention, good taste and professional standards should remain timeless.

Over the decades, generations of clients have placed their trust in Salon Nayana. Some first came to us for an important celebration and later returned with their daughters and families. That continuing confidence is one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I remain deeply grateful for it.

Today, the Salon Nayana name continues through our salons in Sri Lanka and our dedicated presence in Bengaluru, India. Wherever the name is carried, I hope you feel listened to, respected and gently guided towards what is right for you.

To those who have known us for many years, thank you for growing with us. To those visiting Salon Nayana for the first time, I welcome you warmly. May you always leave feeling more fully yourself.

With warmth,
Nayana KarunaratneFounder · Salon Nayana

Experience in practice

What experience means today

Experience means taking the time to understand you before beginning important work. It means knowing when to recommend a service, when to suggest a gentler option and when to advise against proceeding. It also means explaining price, maintenance and aftercare clearly, so you can decide with confidence.
